646f9e108c Alien robots come to Earth and assert their control over humanity. They claim that they only want to observe humanity. They enforce a strict no one allowed outside rule. They implant humans with a device that alerts sentries to anyone who goes outside and if they refuse to comply they are destroyed. They also employ humans to be their proctors. One of these men is Robin Smythe. He tries to get Kate Flynn to be his wife but she still mourns her husband whom Smythe says died. But her son Sean, doesn&#39;t believe it. He sends messages out asking anyone who knows anything about his father to tell him. One day he and three young people are fooling around when they discover that they turned off their implant. That&#39;s when they go outside and someone answers Sean&#39;s message and tells him where his father is. So he goes out to find him But Smythe pursues him and brings his motherleverage. And when the robots corner Sean he somehow manages to control them. So the Robots are curious why he can do that. So they tell Smythe to capture him. Earth has been conquered by robots from a distant galaxy. Survivors are confined to their houses and must wear electronic implants, risking incineration by robot sentries if they venture outside. Robot Overlords is the story of Planet Earth being conquered by robots from another galaxy and the human survivors must stay in their homes, or risk incineration. A small group of kids discovered a way to switch of the tracking mechanism by power shocks so they can sneak around without detection. In the beginning they use this for a bit of fun before beginning to take on the faith of human uprising, gathering the adults and working together to take down the big enemy and its human supporters.<br/><br/>Since I had seen the first Trailer of this some time ago on another Premiere screening I was really looking forward to see this movie. Of course cast names like Sir Ben Kingsley or Gillian Anderson pull viewers on this flick, but it is the youngsters like the Australian Callan McAuliffe or Ella Hunt who in the end positively surprise in their roles.<br/><br/>During the Movie we learn that the Robots are trying to learn from the humans and some humans are helping them with this task guided by Mediators of the Robots. Sir Ben Kingsleya supporter of the Robots who in the final loses importance to them and gets killedwell plays his roleeccentric collaborator brilliantly. He is just coolthe rather careless bad guy.<br/><br/>Gillian Anderson in the role of the former Teacher and Mother was surprising differentknown from other movies I remember to have watched with her. I really hope to see more movies with her on the big screen in the future or even better a comeback of the X-Files. I really liked the story and how it developed despite some scenes were easy to precast. The Scenic views of some scenes are incredible, loved the wide forests, maybe because here in the sand pit you do not see these things. Australian actor Callan McAuliffe waswell very good and the movie had even the one or other comedic moment like when Sean controls the robot and makes him do stupid poses.<br/><br/>Verdict: It is surely not the best Science Fiction movie ever created, but that is not the aim anyways. I found the movie pretty cool. I would have loved to have more information on how this all happened and the Robots conquered earth, but well. If you like Science Fiction movies than Robot Overlords is certainly one to watch and be entertained. I&#39;m surprised by some of the caustic reviews of Robot Overlords. I can but assume the reviewers missed the memo that explains this film is clearly pitched at a teen audience. <br/><br/>That said, Robot Overlords has enough on offer to prove enjoyable for anyone. Its adopts a softened approach to sci-fi, with the hard core death and destruction found in films like Alien, left on the shelf. What you get instead is a cleverly directed film, that is more reminiscent of Doctor Who or perhaps the Sarah Jane adventures. <br/><br/>The hero is a young teen boy and his friends who, inexplicably, take on an invading army of robots who conquered the armies of earth in short order. The story is not supposed to be taken seriously and instead, represents a fun ride for those willing to accept the limitations imposed, which reflect the ages of the likely target audience. <br/><br/>The acting is good with a strong cast and pretty decent special effects. My advice ignore the negative nellies and give Robot Overlords a go, you won&#39;t be disappointed. Seven out of ten from me. Less of a riot than Wright’s previous Grabbers, Robot Overlords displays the same knowing intelligence, sense of fun and deep-rooted love for post-’70s genre film. Unlike its titular villains, it’s sleek and it never malfunctions.
